Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃), also called baking soda, is a white crystalline powder or fine crystal. It is odorless, salty‑tasting, soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. It is a weak alkaline inorganic salt. It decomposes when heated to produce sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water. It is available in industrial grade, food grade and pharmaceutical grade.
